The baritone José Antonio López is a versatile singer who moves smoothly between styles and eras - from baroque to contemporary music.  His professional activity includes concerts, opera and recitals, and he pays great attention to the style and expression of each period, using his voice to best bring out the music.  His recent successful concert performances of Bach´s Passions at the Vienna Musikverein, Ein Deutsches Requiem at the Bozar in Brussels, and his debuts with orchestras such as the Cincinnati Symphony, BBC Symphony, BBC Philharmonic and the Budapest Festival Orchestra, attest to his current great form.

José Antonio López has worked with great conductors such as David Afkham, Andrey Boreyko, Ivor Bolton, Iván Fischer, Martin Haselböck, Pablo Heras-Casado, Christopher Hoogwood, Lorin Maazel, Andrea Marcon, Juanjo Mena, Gianandrea Noseda, Víctor Pablo Pérez, Maurizio Pollini, Josep Pons, Christophe Rouset, and Masaaki Suzuki, among others.

In recent years he has also greatly increased his number of opera performances.  He took the lead role in Mauricio Sotelo´s El Público at the Teatro Real in Madrid, conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado, and has made recent debuts as Germont, Ford (Seville), Amonasro, Iago and Jokanaan, and took the lead role in Der fliegende Holländer in Valencia. He has also sung various operas by Händel (Giulio Cesare, Rinaldo, Radamisto, at the Teatro Bellas Artes in Mexico, and Rodelinda, at the Teatro Real in Madrid in a Claus Guth production).  Other roles include Figaro, Don Giovanni and Escamillo, as well as numerous zarzuelas. In 2019 he will make his opera debut at the Gran Teatro del Liceo in Barcelona in Benet Casablancas´ first opera, L’enigma di Lea, and will take the title role in Verdi´s Macbeth as well as the role of Sharpless.

Among his upcoming concerts this season are some impressive engagements, such as Messiah with the Warsaw Philharmonic and Martin Haselböck, Schubert´s Mass in E flat major with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra and Robert Treviño, and Ein Deutsches Requiem with the Dresdner Festspiele Orchester and Johannes Klumpp, (in the Bogota Brahms Festival).  He will also be making a debut at the Berliner Philharmoniker and the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg with a performance of Spanish baroque music alongside "Al Ayre Español" and Eduardo López Banzo.

During his career he has also performed in concert halls such as the Barbican, the Prinzregententheater in Munich, the Berwaldhallen in Stockholm, the Filarmónica in Warsaw, the Halle aux Grains in Toulouse, and the Vienna Konzerthaus and Theater an der Wien – where he gave a concert accompanied by Maurizio Pollini.  He has sung at the most important concert halls in Spain, where he has performed repertoire from Bach to Brahms, as well as pieces by Mahler and Britten, Verdi´s Requiem and Schönberg´s Gurrelieder, which was recorded by the Deutsche Gramophon label. He has also made recordings for Harmonia Mundi, Naxos and Chandos. José Antonio López is also very active as a performer of contemporary music repertoire.
