Born in Barcelona, he received his first musical education in the Escolania de Montserrat [Montserrat Boys Choir], at the Conservatoire of Barcelona, where he studied piano and organ. At the same time, he studied romance languages at the Universitat Autònoma of Barcelona.

With scholarships from the Juan March Foundation and the Austrian Ministry of Science and Research, he studied orchestral and choral direction with Hans Swarowsky, Karl Österreicher, Otmar Suitner and Günther Theuring at the Vienna Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, where he graduated with the highest honours. He twice received grants from the Castellblanch Art Foundation to study in Salzburg with Bruno Maderna and with Franco Ferrara in Siena.

He has won awards from the Spanish Vocational Foundation, the Austrian Ministry of Science and Research and also in the Hans Swarowsky International Orchestral Conducting Competition, in Vienna.

Salvador Mas Conde has been chief conductor and Artistic Director of the City of Barcelona Orchestra (OBC) and of the Orfeó Català; the Württemberg Philharmonic Orchestra, (Germany); The Limburg Symphony Orchestra Maastricht, (Netherlands); the Dusseldorf Symphony Orchestra, (Germany), as well as the choir of the Musikverein in that same city; and the Israel Chamber Orchestra.

He is currently Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the City of Granada Orchestra.

In addition to directing the main Spanish orchestras, he is regularly invited to conduct the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of Austrian Radio, the Hilversum Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Limburg Symphony Orchestra, the Dusseldorf Symphony Orchestra, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra.

From 1990 to 1993, he was responsible, as Professor Extraordinary, of the class of orchestral conducting of the Conservatoire of Barcelona. From 2005 to 2008, he was Vice Chancellor of the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) [Catalonia Academy of Music]. In Vienna, he has directed, since 1999, the class of Orchestral Conducting for the Wiener Meisterkurse as successor to Professor Hans Swarowsky.
